4) Follow through. If you want to frustrate your mentor, take his
or her advice and do nothing with it. Success results from follow
through. Your mentor or board members gift to you is his or her advice
When you apply the gift, you actually give him or her a gift back. No
matter what line of work you are in, if you make a solid commitment
to follow through, your future is virtually unlimited.
5) Be gratefulsend a little gift. A person can say thank you in
more than a thousand ways. An attitude of gratitude is imperative.
Occasionally, surprise your mentor with a small gifta token of
appreciation. Write a personal note to say thank you. Remember this:
Your mentor/mentee relationship is like any other relationship. You
must learn how to earn and keep the good will of the other person.
Lets Review No condition is ever permanent. There are many things
we can do to take our condition from permanent to temporary. I have
shared with you what you can do to change your condition.
1. First you must whole-heartedly believe in your own ability. What
others think is their opinion about you, but what you think about
yourself is your reality. Whether you get all the support in the
world or lots of criticism, you still can get ahead if you believe
you can. Surround yourself with people who can encourage and support
your dreams.
2. Choose someone who is living your dream.
3. Refuse to take feedback from others unless you know they
sincerely care about your welfare.
Optimist International, an international, non-profit organization
that promotes community involvement, has a creed that its members
recite at the end of every meeting. Over the years, it has become my
personal creed and I have committed it to memory. I share the creed
with thousands.
I am excited to have the opportunity to share it with you. It helps
me to keep the things I share in this chapter with you in perspective.
