Motivational Success Story: Page 22 of 25

For now all you need to know is to ask courteously. Dont feel like anyone is obligated to assist you. In fact, the only hands you can absolutely depend on to always be there for you are the ones hanging b your side. Any other help is a privilege. So, ask someone to mentor youto be your board member today.

2) Choose someone who is living your dream. When you are thirsty, you should never go a dry well. Your mentor should not be a cute perso whose face you enjoy watching. He should have knowledge and experience in your field. She should have enough energy to boost your battery.

3) Make sure you know the person cares about your success. Nothing is more devastating than taking advice from someone who has a hidden agenda. There are people who are very comfortable giving you advice as long as you are one level below them. As soon as you move up one rung of the ladder ahead of them, they get jealous. They may not say o admit this, but you will feel it. So, make sure you know the person cares about your success.

What To Do Once You Find A Mentor 1) Be considerate of the persons time. Everyone is busy. We are alway juggling many balls. To a productive and successful person, every hour is precious. Show up on time and be prepared. Be utterly grateful that your mentor has agreed to spend time with you no matter how short.

2) Ask specific questions. Dont go to your mentor and say, I need help. He or she is not psychic. You must articulate exactly what areas in your life or business require help. Before you meet with your mentor, write down your questions. Also, remember to ask open-ended questions like How would you handle this situation if you were me? 3) Listen, listen, listen. Its amazing how someone asks for advice bu then ends up doing all the talking. If we knew what to do in the first place, we wouldnt have had to ask. When I ask, I zip it up and listen. We can only learn when we are listening and observing, not when we are talking. Everyone loves to talk about his or her accomplishments. Fire up the question, listen, and take copious notes.
