They want a boost. Even when you think their idea does not make
sense to you, you should not dismiss it too quickly. Perhaps you can
sleep on it a little until you can offer a way to improve upon it.
Remember, its not what you say; its how you say it. For those of

I strongly suggest that you read How to Win Friends and Influence
People by Dale Carnegie.
Seek Advice From Trusted Advisors I know when I give my best and
when I fail to measure up. Although we can sometimes be too harsh on
ourselves, I truly understand my success does not come from what other
believe or think about me; its what I believe. I dont mean to be
arrogant by pretending that I know everything. Au contraire, I
constantly seek advice.
Yet when I seek feedback, I go to TRUSTED ADVI-SORSpeople who have
my best interests at heart. My trusted advisors are those who truly
want to see me succeedthey are, in effect, my cheerleaders and coaches
They can be brutally honest with me without crushing my ego because I
know they care.
Cavet Robert, the founder of the National Speakers Association, put
it best when he said, No one cares how much you know until they know
how much you care. You should seek advice and feedback from people
who care about you. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by such
people.
I remember when I started speaking. Shirley Garrett got out of bed
before 6:00 a.m. to listen to and evaluate my presentation. I know
Shirley cares. She is a phenomenal speaker herself and she genuinely
wants me to succeed.
My great speaker-friend and mentor Myra McElhaney is the person I
call from my hotel room before a speech to ask for last minute advice.
Myra knows how to bring out the best in me. Her advice is always on
target, and I know she cares.
Get A Mentor Now Whether you work for somebody else or for yourself,
if you are serious about success, you need a mentor, someone who has
achieved the kind of success you are after. When you need feedback, yo
cant go to a destroyer to help build your future.
