I Was Just Thinking
About You
By Rene Godefroy

Have you ever called a friend and you hear, “oh, I was just thinking

about you.” I am like, "really? What’s wrong with your fingers?" (Well, I say it only to myself.) I don’t know about you, I can stand it for a few times. But as soon as it becomes a routine, I get sick of it.

I must admit that sometimes I get into the I-was-just-thinking-about-you syndrome. Why do we do that? Well, I guess it’s because of plain laziness. You know, we have good intentions. We really want to call. But we get lazy. Come to think of it, I am thinking about a couple of people that I will call right after this writing. Even if they are not home, I will leave a message.

Now if you are in business or in sales, I have an idea for you. Right now many of your customers maybe thinking about you! But they are lazy and they will not call you. You know what? It’s your job to stay in touch. You never know they might be thinking about you. Since I started this newsletter, you will not believe how many past clients that call and email to let me know they intended to call me. Alright, that’s enough about business.

For those of you who don’t have to worry about staying in touch with past clients, call those folks you have been thinking about. You never know, a pleasant surprise might be all that someone might need for a boost. Stuff happens. Make that call now!

Stay in touch. Will you?

I was wondering if you had any advice for a career sales person who is looking for a change. I have worked in sales for 13 years but I feel that I need to add something to the world around me. Any thoughts? I am looking at a career with the local police.

Dear Ian,

There are so many good causes around that you can be a part of in order to contribute to the world around. Find one and volunteer a few hours a month. I am not really sure you want to be a police officer. Has it been your dream all along? Or do you want to do it so that you can give back to your community?

If the answer to the first question is yes, then my advice to you would be to first start volunteering for the police department in your city. Call and find out how you can volunteer. You may also want to take a police officer out to lunch to pick his or her brain.
