I was jugging in my neighborhood and the garbage truck disrupted my pattern. It did something to me that may be why are not achieving your goals every month. I am assuming you have goals in the first place. Since you are now a part of my village, I know you do.
You see, every morning, Monday through Friday, I run for about 30 minutes. Sometimes it’s in my neighborhood and most of the times it’s in a hotel gym. And I know I probably need to run longer. But hey, I am not training for a marathon. I just want to break into a sweat and strengthen my heart muscles.
The truck drove by and the smoke transported me to my village in Haiti in a split second. You see, when I was a kid, there was one beat up and ancient truck that used to come to pick up and drop off people. If you read my book, Kick Your Excuses Goodbye, you probably know the story already.
In brief, I was a starving and sick kid in a tiny village in Haiti. At the age of nine months, my mother left me behind to go find a better way to provide for me. When I became aware of my surroundings, my mother and father were not around. And so, my quest began to find mama. Voici Phane was the old battered truck that came every Wednesday to drop off and pick up pick people.
Every time I would a diesel fume, I remember waiting for my mother. That’s called an brain anchor. Well that morning during my jug, that’s exactly what happened. In fact, forty minutes later, I realized that I was in my neighborhood running. Here’s my point.
Most people never accomplish much because they can’t focus. They are often transported to the next project because they even finish the project at hand. Most people fall short of the mark simply because they are scattered too much. Lack of focus is a terrible disease that plagues the landscape of success.
Entrepreneurs, including yours truly, are notorious for being too scattered. As soon as something start working, they drop it and move on to the next. What about you…. We are already in April. How much have you accomplished? What fume is distracting you?
I am encouraging you to pick a project. Whether it is at work or in your personal life, stick to it until it is completely done.
Than go out and celebrate that success. You can even call your friends and family members and brag about it. If they downplay your success, ask them when was the last time they got a major project done from start to finish.
Now go on and unbury those old ideas you abandoned too early. Dust them off and go at it again. They stay with it. Focus, focus, focus.
I wish you
incredible success!
