Be A Village Hero

Success

Your contribution means a lot to me. We are in the process of designing a logo for beavillagehero.com. It’s the non-profit organization for my foundation. (Thanks to my friend Mr. Per for suggesting we use beavillagehero.com for the site.)

We really need your feedback. Let us know what number strikes you as being the best symbol of our message. Or do you have any suggestions on how we can combine the different samples to come up with an even more unique logo.

Keep in mind that this logo will be on T-shirts and other promotional products. I welcome any suggestions you may have. If you think something is missing, let me know!

Many thanks my friend for your valuable input! You are truly awesome!

Yours truly,

Rene Godefroy

Hi rene:

What a tremendously brilliant idea. You never cease to amaze me. As one of your “creative” people, I choose number 1. The colors are well balanced, and the hands centering the text gives it a perfect appeal. I can easily see the logo on letterhead, products and other marketing collateral. As a PR person this would be my first choice. Good luck with it, and keep up the amazing work!!!

Thank you very much Anasia. You are very creative as well. It’s always a great idea to sample the market and find out what works from the user’s perspective.

I appreciate your feedback. I think I will open up this to my entire list which is about 5,000 people. It would be interesting to see which design would win the contest.

Rene . . . I looked at them online then printed them out in color and then in black and white. If I have to choose just one it would be #1. But all the options with two hands give me the nonverbal message of “stop” or “back away” instead of “help” or “join.” But #4 (with just one hand) has the overlapping type which will be hard to read in small sizes or in black&white. I’m not sure if I like the cursive typeface used for Hero in 2, 3, 4 & 6 - but I definitely do not like the initial letter being a different color (#2/6). So with all that said it’s back to option 1 for the balance and flexibility of the design, with option #5 coming in a close second.

If makes them aware of what you are doing and reminds them of what a good guy you are. Would posting something on my new blog help your project?

Rene,

I think #7 is FANTASTIC! To me, it is very creative and imaginative. I like the idea of the little head atop the “H”. It really stands out and made me take notice.

If this was your logo I would be compelled to give, not that I wouldn’t give anyway. Also, to me it’s saying to each of us to “BE A HERO!” that alone says volumes.

Thank you for your constant inspiration, It means alot!

Hi Rene,

No.7 logo caught my attention.

It shows action with a motto.
It reflects Youthful vibrancy.
It shows break-free attitude (an essential mindset for growth).
It also shows one ready to embrace the challenges.

Finally it shows an openness

Thanks for letting me be part of this exercise

I wish you all the best

#7 is certainly my most favorite. Prior to seeing #7, I was going for #1 but #7 won me over. The design is clean and the idea of turning the “H” into a person was great. I feel the “H” person is symbolic of each individual who becomes a Village Hero. When you join this foundation you become that figure, with your arms stretched, welcoming any and everyone to join you. As mentioned previously, the hands make me think of stop, stay away, while the other design welcomes one and all. Congratulations in advance!

Rene:
As a graphic designer, some things we consider when creating a “mark” for an organization are:

• is it instantly recognizable and memorable, or is it too much of a story?
• can it reproduce equally well in small or large sizes?
• does it lend itself equally well to multiple colors, one color or black only applications?
• can it reproduce well on the Web or in print?

with this in mind, I would vote for #1, with the following suggestions:

The “handprints” will not reproduce well as they are. I would recommend to stylize and enhance them further so that the color is “solid” in all spots and not some light and some darker — just from a printing perspective.

Test additional colors instead of the green. On computer monitors it may look washed out. You may wish to select slightly varying shades for different applications.

the other selections are really too busy and not immediate enough.

If you are going to do a mark that is mostly type, then perhaps something a little more imaginative than “Helvetica” or “Arial” would give more of the feel you are trying to achieve. That is what us graphic designers and type designers may be able to help with when you have decided on the direction you wish to take.

Thanks,
-Paula

Hi, Rene!

My eyes were immediately drawn to #7. The graphic portrayal of the “H” in hero would capture anyone’s attention, and would be a great draw on a t-shirt, hat, etc. I especially like the spiritual quality that the “H” seems to have.

Though it has the qualities of the human form and shape, with the circle at the top and the upward and outward flow of the sides, I can envision the form of an angel, with arms stretched toward heaven. Thank you for being a true inspiration!

Hi Rene,

Among all I like #7 the best. The others are nice but I don’t think the hands really translate the purpose of the organization (Helping the children in the village). I think a small profile picture shadow of a child with both hands extended in the air would be great.

A logo that says it all. However, it’s not about the logo it’s all about the cause. I take my hat to you for being among the few who wants to make a difference. The world needs more people like you.

Keep up the good work!!!

A “Hero” like you are Rene Godefroy are special and exciting. I am proud to be associated with you in this minute way. My son, W. Darrell Carter, a mechanical engineer, has designed and developed the first American automobile that does not short people of anything they demand in a luxury vehicle. I believe reading your book and developing a mentality of a winner like you had a great deal to do with his successes.

I believe number seven says a lot more than the average person would think, and it captures the attention of anyone giving this logo some type of thought.

After leaving the U. of Pa., I can see this logo capturing millions of people’s attention, and with the correct message attached it will also cause thousands to act constructively in building your foundation solidly.

Being a village hero is essential for everyone if we are to grow stronger. This foundation will benefit people for generation to come.

I pray for your successes daily.

More things I just noticed, another reason to really look at the type choice and arrangement.

The lower case “G” on choice #1 becomes a very prominent design element, even though it really should not have any significance at all. I might change the U/LC of the top line of type (be a village) to all Upper-case but smaller or condensed to eliminate that unnatural space below it, and then do something else with the reverse type (Hero) in the box. Why reverse, and why in a box? A logo or mark must justify every element, and if there is no reason for it to be there then maybe another choice works better?

If you go with #7, the type should be kerned and adjusted for even optical spacing.

If you incorporate a ® mark into the logo, then please put it at the bottom somewhere, not at the top, and adjust the size smaller. It just needs to “be there”, if the mark is registered, but not as prominent.

best,

Paula

Hi Rene

#7 looks joyful…energetic… and like an angel….which sometimes heroes seem to be. The others are good, but #1 has a definite black box…. which looks rather severe although artistically dramatic. Think about the feeling each one gives… someone suggested the hands were standoffish… I agree… green is a go colour, but black is oppressive and I do not think that is the message you wish to give… the green figure is open, welcoming, and embracing… with good energy and growth….

You are an inspiration to all of us and put us in the admirable position of wanting you to succeed even if the only help we can give you at present is our prayers and our faith in what you do.

Thank you for sharing yourself with me… with all of us… you have an army of winners and a network of hopefuls…

Rene, as a Christian, print shop owner, and Haiti visitor, (we have talked on the phone) I voted for#7 for the reason that the shape of the H into a body and stylized head performs more action than the hands alone. The hands speak to ‘action” but how much more the entire body raised in action. I applaud your efforts to help your people. And if you ever get out to the west coast, Oregon or Washington, I would love to meet you!

Dear René,
Great idea! Congratulations on your new endeavor. We need the Village Heroes…
I chose # 3 and here is the reason:

1) The village people use theit hands a lot. It shows a left and Right hand being togethet, that proves unity.

2) It shows the hands being dirty which very typical of the village people.

3) The statement “BE A Village Hero” is in black and is direct.

Personal Comment:
Now, all the logos should be shown in the same size as # 7 in order to be fair in the survey. Statistickly speaking, when comparing objects of similarity and/or dissimilarity, the same method or the same model should be used to avoid being biased in any way, shape or form.
I encourage you to move forward in that project, because I believe that the Village truely needs it.

It also shows how exited I am to do this. The body language says it all. The others were nice. But I have seen the hands used many times and was not very original. If anything use the feet so others can emulate your foot-steps, or want to go where you go or better yet walk beside you.

As Always Rene I pray for you continued Blessings.
